I love dresses in the summer but almost never wear them when it’s cold. I’ve been looking at long sleeve and maxi dresses online for the last month or two to find one that I wouldn’t freeze in, but I just haven’t found anything that really grabs me. In the process, however, I’ve started layering some of my favorite summer dresses. For New Year’s Eve, we did a boat cruise on the Thames River to watch the fireworks. Wanting to dress up for the occasion but knowing it would be cold was a bit of a quandary. I decided to wear my Ted Baker dress (seen here) with my favorite black, silk button up shirt (and a tank top) underneath. The dress and the shirt meshed together perfectly. I decided to try that layering in this slightly more casual knee high boots outfit and love how it looks (and that it keeps me warm)!
This black shift dress has been in my closet for close to five years. It was a bargain find in the Gap sale section and it’s one of my most worn pieces (Nordstrom sells a very similar dress!). And speaking of bargains… this beautiful coat is by Prada. I found it at my local Crossroads store last winter for only $150. It’s really warm and I love its tailored cut.
