As a historian, I’m skeptical that many things will stand the test of time. As I’ve moved into social media, I see (even more quickly it seems) how fast trends come and go. One trend that doesn’t seem to be fading quickly, however, is the wisdom of Sex & the City (weren’t ready for that one were you?)! I was a little young to understand the show when it originally aired, but in my early 20s, I slowly worked my way through all six (seven really) seasons. What was entertaining at the time has somehow left random impressions on me in relation to real life. It seems I’m frequently referencing scenes, storylines, and jokes from the show. And I know I’m not alone! Anything with dating is an obvious connection, but even life choices and friendships seem all too reminiscent of the series. I’ve been working through old blog posts and last week I read a post from two years ago about my bra straps showing and how Carrie from Sex & the City showed me that sometimes you just have to let them show and it doesn’t matter. As my hair has gotten longer and my life has become busier this year, I’ve been wearing my hair down naturally far more often than not. In real life, I rarely notice my roots in those last few weeks before a hair appointment, but in my outfit photos, it’s all I see. I’m trying to embrace my inner Carrie during these times and just let the curly, slightly crazy (in a loveable way) hair flow as it will. I remember those silly quizzes we used to take about which character on the show you were. Somehow, I think I’m a combination of all 4, but if I had to pick one, I think I’m Miranda…
And on a totally unrelated topic, this casual maxi dress outfit is everything summer. Cool, flowy maxi dresses handle the heat so well and don’t leave you feeling uncomfortable in your own shoes. Worn with flats, wedges, or mules (still obsessed with these) and topped off with a scarf, cardigan, or a denim jacket – they’re just so easy and fun!
