One of the pitfalls I’ve developed since becoming a blogger is that I worry about links and availability of a product. I get caught up in whether an item can be shared on my blog and Instagram. This becomes even more limiting when I try to figure out if a product is available through RewardStyle – the commissioned link service I use. Now, making sure products are available through these links is a part of the business. Sometimes, however, it’s a little too limiting and I let it dictate more of my decisions than it rightly should. But while many of the items in my wardrobe are (or were at one time) ‘linkable,’ I have a few things that are solely mine – things that were handmade for me.
The big one, of course, is my homemade wedding dress. Having my sister help me design my own dress exactly to my preferences was one of my favorite parts of wedding planning. Another thing that is just mine is this poncho my mom made for me. So while this knit poncho outfit may be just another chic outfit idea, it also holds a lot of meaning for me…
My mom first made me this poncho in a muted purple color. I still have it, but to be honest, my current black, tan, white, and grey sartorial preferences make purple trickier for me to wear. At the time, however, I loved the sweater so much, I asked if she would also make it for me in tan. This was long before my camel brown obsession. Obviously I must have known the color palette pathway I was heading down…
Knit Poncho Outfit
I absolutely love the offset bottom. I flip the long part over my shoulder and leaning down my back. On occasion, I do wear this poncho with one arm through the top. It sounds funny, but it actually looks nice and it gives me a free arm to live my everyday life. And then in the evening, I can tuck myself back inside the cozy sweater my mom made just for me!
Not to worry, I found a super cute knit poncho on Etsy. But I think this also means I should also get back into knitting someday!
