When you think of the Napa Valley, you think wine tasting and wineries. While there are plenty of those to go around (a few times), there are also a bunch of other fun things to do in Napa. We had failed attempts to go hot air ballooning, but it’s certainly available. There are also tons of trendy restaurants and views enough to fulfill your heart! Downtown Napa, Yountville, and St. Helena are each adorable little towns that you can walk around, taking in the local vibe of local agriculture along with swanky wine tasting and tourism! Each of these areas has plenty of food options, tasting rooms (of course), and little boutiques. You’ll want to snap photos of all the cuteness! But one of my favorite stops on this last trip was to Oakville Grocery …
Oakville Grocery is next to Durant & Booth wine tasting room. Where Durant & Booth (blog post coming soon) is art deco chic at its finest, the market has that old-timey country store vibe with tons of great food options – to take home and to eat right there. Their coffee window opens up at 6:30 and the store itself opens at 7. They serve Sightglass coffee and even the drip coffee is scrumptious! They offer baked morsels from local bakeries – all of which will have you drooling before you even get to the counter. There’s a constant flow of locals wandering in to grab coffee too, so that should tell you something about just how tasty it is!
Before we even get to the lunch options, let’s talk dry goods. Offering “old-time” candy in big jars in one corner, the south wall also includes local mustards, baked goodies, bread mixes, infused olive oils, and a slew of deliciousness. You pretty much want to put everything in your basket to take home. The wall ends with their offering of the wines from Durant & Booth – to complete any treats you take home!
When it’s time for lunch, however, the meat and cheese selection along with the “deli case” of salads and the sandwich offerings will do the trick. You can see how extensive their cheese offerings are in the case above. Imagine some of those with that freshly baked French baguette and a drink out in the courtyard on the picnic tables!! Ok. But we need to talk about the sandwiches and the lunch…
With so many delicious choices, we asked everyone we could find what their favorite option was for lunch. By the time we asked four or five people, I’m pretty sure they’d mentioned every option on the menu! We had to make a decision though, so we shared a chicken gruyere sandwich, the quinoa and cucumber salad, and a crab cake. We each had a glass of wine and cactus water (to stay hydrated of course) and headed outside to the great picnic tables to enjoy our food, soak up the sun, and to be in the best mood ever!
We first visited Oakville Grocery for lunch on our day of wine tasting (see our first day in Napa here). Then we went back early the next morning to grab coffee, morsels, and some bottles of wine to bring home. We arrived a little after 7 and caught the sun coming up on the hills and through that big beautiful tree. With a chill in the air, it was kind of everything you’d imagine about a country sunrise!
Thank you to Oakville Grocery and Visit Napa Valley for hosting us. All opinions are, of course, my own!
