It’s hard to commit to a coffee shop sometimes. Usually we have a few that we love and alternate between – occasionally we add/remove depending of changes in their offerings and our tastes. But it’s always more fun to add a place. Alana’s is along Venice Boulevard and I remember seeing it open about a year ago (probably as I was frantically weaving through traffic to get to Abbot Kinney to take photos), but it took me forever to go. I finally went with a friend a few months back and liked it enough to take my husband one weekend morning. He kind of fell in love too and it’s starting to come into our repertoire a little more often. The coffee is good and this zucchini muffin was everything I wanted and more.

Summer Blazer Outfit
With my self-employed life (and even when I’m wearing my teaching hat), I need outfits that look pulled together but are still casual enough to be me. Luckily living in LA, walking that line isn’t as difficult as other places. A few weeks ago I saw a girl in target rocking a full blazer with jeans and a simple black tank top underneath. She looked quite chic and not too overly dressed for summer. I reached for my usual white jacket and then saw this cropped-sleeve version next to it.
The open front and shorter sleeves of this jacket are perfect for summer, allowing more air to flow. I’ve worn it a number of times over dresses (casual and more form-fitting cuts), but I might like it best in this summer blazer outfit. The jacket is also available in black and in a beautiful dark peach (only in a few sizes sadly).
The best part about this ensemble is that it can easily be changed to fit my needs – flat slides for an evening out, heeled sandals for something a little nicer, and, of course, these comfortable white sneakers for running errands. Of course, white or black pants would certainly refine it more than my comfortable blue jeans, but what can I say?
