Until a few years ago, I thought puffer coats were just a fashion trend. And while I think some of them are (especially in the warmer climes of LA), there are others that keep you warm as can be even in the windiest and chilliest of weather conditions. I own two long puffer coats – both from Eddie Bauer and both lifesaving, cold-weather essentials. I’ve schlepped my coats to Calgary, Scotland, Vancouver, and London. Who knows where else my puffer coat will go, but I will sing its praises each and every time. . .
Long Puffer Coat Style
With long puffer coats, you want to take note if the coat is waterproof, water resistant, or just fluff. Obviously the more protection the coat can offer your from wind AND rain, the better. This long down coat is water-repellent, you’ll just want to remove the fur lining on the hood if it’s raining. The fur snaps on and off with little work.
Long puffer coats are great because they keep you warm, but only the parts of you that it covers. If the weather is really chilly, you’ll also want to wear tall boots that hit about the bottom of the coat to truly keep yourself warm. Of course, in this puffer coat outfit, I didn’t mind a little chill on my ankles!
There are a lot of expensive, popular brands of puffer coats. Canada Goose is certainly popular (it consumes the Canada Nordstroms), but the nearly $1,000 price point is just a little crazy in my book. This one from Eddie Bauer is under $300 and they often have sales, getting it down below $200! I also found some other great puffer coats below that are under $500 and look warm and chic!
