In the somewhat small world of maternity fashion, I’ve decided that there are maternity clothes and there are maternity clothes. I said that to my husband one night and he looked at me like I was losing it. So I elaborated. There are some clothes that look like the clothes I would normally wear, but they’re cut to accommodate a growing belly. And then there are clothes that have the historically maternity look and scream “I’m pregnant.” You all. It’s no secret, we don’t need to make it even more obvious. Nor am I looking to wear anything that’s less than decently flattering. Luckily this maternity shirt dress outfit fits into the chic and comfortable categories…
Maternity Clothes vs. Maternity Clothes
Since I’ve had the most luck (meaning the most choices) shopping for clothes online, I’ll be honest in telling you that you can’t always pick out pieces that are flattering without screaming that you’re pregnant. I’ve largely avoided the leggings and oversized top look. Now this sounds incredibly comfortable, but I’m not just a leggings person in general. Otherwise, I’ve opted for a few pairs of jeans, basics tees and tanks, and some chic dresses.
One thing to note. This maternity shirt dress is shown online with the tie in the front. I feel as though that accentuates my maternity look more than I want, so I tie it in the back where I would tie it normally. I think little things like this can make a big difference when navigating the maternity clothes world.
Chic Maternity Shirt Dress Outfit
Besides the pregnancy leggings outfits, I’m also steering clear of the tshirt dress. Again this isn’t a style I’m usually attracted too. And with all my new curves (and my belly button on the verge of making an appearance), I’m steering clear for the time being. This maternity shirt dress is still tailored but with some wiggle room or breathing room. It’s also knee length, so it fits all my usual criteria for dresses. And while I love my jeans and can’t wait to be back in them, I’m living for my dresses these days! All those bathroom trips and my little guy’s growing demand for more space make them so much more comfortable!
