When I was younger, my skincare routine felt pretty basic. As I got older, and started dealing with acne, I felt like I just kept adding products and time to my morning skincare routine. Blah! Since discovering the cause of my cystic acne, however, I’ve been able to hone in on just the products I need! Instead of fighting breakouts and dealing with scars, we’re just recovering from scars and keeping my skin clean! So here are the products with step-by-step application directions for my morning skincare routine!
Morning Skincare Routine
The first step is to wash my face, of course. Whenever I wash my face, it’s a two-step process. First I wet my face a few times. Second, I wash my hands with plain old soap. Then (after I turn off the water of course), I wash my face with my favorite cleanser for 20-30 seconds. Finally, I rinse very well and pat my skin dry.
The extra step of washing my hands after I wet my face is to get rid of extra dirt and oil on my hands. I don’t want my facial cleanser to have to work at cleaning my hands and face at the same time!
After my face is clean, I apply my serums. This glycolic serum has been a lifesaver in helping me minimize the scarring from my acne problems. It takes just a half-pump and is really helping.
Step three is to apply a brightening serum. I shared the plight of pregnancy hyperpigmentation. So this has been a must for a few months now. That post shares a number of products to use for brightening and evening out skin tone!
I will note that I often switch back and forth between my glycolic serum and the brightening serum, depending on what I want to penetrate my skin first (and therefore more strongly).
Eye cream is an absolute must in my world. I’m only able to use it in the mornings these days, however. Not only do I want some good moisturizing action, but I love that this Total Eye Care offers some coverage and SPF. It’s the perfect eye cream for summer whether you’re applying makeup or going au naturale!
Ok. And then the ultimate in moisturizing cream. This “magic cream” is my new ultimate must-have. It’s lightweight, ultra-moisturizing, and has a wonderful smell. It does offer SPF 15, but that doesn’t meet my minimum of at least SPF 30 on my face everyday, so…
The last step in my morning skincare routine (and if you only have one step, it has to be this) is to apply sunscreen. I shared a number of the best sunscreens with at least SPF 30 a while back. I love a lot of those ones, but my recent one is this CoTZ sunscreen. It’s lightly tinted and I like that the container isn’t huge since you don’t need much!
