As I get back into fashion for more than just fitting that belly of mine, shoes and outerwear have been the go-tos! During the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale this summer, I picked out two coats and a pair of boots. Besides fitting me, they also got me even more excited for my first fall and winter in a while. While I’ve mostly been opting for brands and styles familiar to me, I went out on a limb with this barn coat outfit…
I truthfully had no idea what a barn coat was until I saw this one! And after doing some searching, I’ve learned that “barn coats” is really a catchall term for a jacket that looks like something you’d be wearing in a Ralph Lauren photoshoot complete with meadows, horses, and barns! I’m not mad about that at all!
Not only was this style totally out of my ordinary, but this color… Burnt Orange? Really? ME?!?! But I just couldn’t get over it! And you know, paired with my blue jeans and typical blacks and whites, IT’S PERFECT!!! (it is also available in a lavender)
The temps aren’t exactly cool yet here in northern California, but the winds have been gusty (luckily not terrible in Sacramento). Last week, this barn coat outfit was everything I needed during one of those gusty days. I even got a little warm at times. It really has no lining, but it keeps heat in.
The oversized cut lets you layer all you want underneath. So while it may not be a thick layer, it’s actually the perfect outer layer to wear on all those non-rainy days in the next few months!
