So, I think I’m on a new mission in life. I wear jeans so often that when I posted this photo on Instagram a few weeks ago, some friends were SHOCKED that I was wearing a dress. I actually love dresses, but I definitely only bust them out in the summer and I’m certainly particular about the ones I wear. So, the new mission? To inundate y’all with dresses for a bit, so you don’t think I only wear jeans. But, as part of this new mission, it seems necessary to share my tips and tricks for finding great dresses, even if you live for jeans, as well as sharing my OBSESSION for Eliza J. dresses – my go to source for summer dresses with pockets!!!
Summer Dresses with Pockets
My first Eliza J. dress was the dress I wore to my French-themed bridal shower (my sister threw a phenomenal party)! I loved the dress for so many reasons – the sturdy design and materials for one, the flattering fit and flare style for two, and, of course, the pockets! I honestly wasn’t sure I’d ever find another dress so wonderful. Until last summer that was when I picked out another Eliza J. dress (this one). The neckline and back details are different, but otherwise it fits exactly the same, and more importantly, it’s another item in the summer dresses with pockets category. So now my love is cemented and any time I need a dress, I look through all the Eliza J. dresses first!

So if you’re persnickety about dresses (like I am), here are a few things I look for. First, I don’t like tight-fitting bottoms. The reason I love pants is that they allow me to move freely, so a looser skirt is a must to stay comfortable. Second, since I almost always opt for bigger skirts on my dresses, I like a form fitting bodice. For this, I always look for fit and flare styles. Third, besides the comfort of jeans, I also love that they cover up my legs, so knee-length, midi, and maxi dresses are my jam since they do the same thing. And, finally, POCKETS! Jeans are functional partly for their pockets. Why more dresses don’t have pockets is beyond me (just like all women and anybody who has to hold our stuff at big events). Most, if not all, of the Eliza J. dresses have pockets…
The great thing about this brand – I told you I was OBSESSED – is the variety of styles that fit all my criteria. There is a gingham version of this exact dress that is impossibly cute. There’s also a seersucker style in the gingham that’s currently on major sale! This midi dress has a mix of patterns in a way that I absolutely love. She also offers a number of elegant evening dresses. And, finally, there are a handful of plus-size options too. This creme tiered lace dress would look perfect for literally any occasion!! There is actually a great selection of her plus size dresses here and some great sale options here!!!
