If you’re wondering how to drink more water, the answer is simple but doing it can be so, so hard!
I sometimes overwhelm myself trying to be healthy – getting enough of the right workouts in, eating more fruits and veggies, and not eating too many french fries (the hardest one for sure). It’s all about trying to stay in tune with my body and respond to its needs and wants.
Of all the things I do to stay healthy, however, I’ve discovered how important enough sleep and finding all the ways to drink even more water really are for me physically, mentally, and probably emotionally…
My guy unintentionally showed me how to drink more water when we started dating and I’ve never looked back.
A few months ago, I realized my body was never feeling at ease. It was usually a general full feeling that wasn’t painful but annoying. After hearing a friendly reminder about the crazy amount of water we should be drinking, I decided to up my intake as much as possible and I feel so much better.
Once I get my coffee in hand, I slow way down on my water intake, so now I drink as much water as I can when I wake up and during/after my workout. starting out my day super hydrated has been the easiest way for me to ensure I get enough water (at least 100 oz each day)!
Benefits of Drinking More Water
UPDATE: Every month it seems as though I come across another article on a study about all the great thing water does for you. The latest one is this article from Medical News Today. Included in the list are oxygenating your body, joint lubrication, regulating body temperature, maintain blood pressure, prevent kidney damage, and even cushioning your brain. WHAAAA?!
There is no part of your physical life that doesn’t benefit from staying hydrated!
I know drinking water can be really hard for some people, so here are a few tips for how to drink more water along with the friendly reminder to drink up!
How to Drink More Water
Drink Water in the Morning
Drink as much water as you can in the morning, before and after coffee/tea. We tend to get distracted later in the day and we don’t want to be up all night, so get most of it done in the early part of the day.
Keep Water Nearby
Always have water nearby. I have a water bottle I always have with me in the car and at the gym. At my desk, I have a large cup to refill throughout the day. If it’s within reach and within sight, you’ll naturally grab for it!
Mix up your water
An easy change is to add ice to make it cold or heat it up to sip it warm. You can also use a straw to make it more like other beverages.
Beyond that, you can add herbs and sliced fruit to add extra flavor. Some options include mint leaves, sliced cucumber, berries, and citrus. Avoid adding sugars and flavoring as they take away from your hydration.
Set Water Drinking goals throughout the day
I always finish my 16 oz water cup in the morning, drink my 1 liter water bottle before I get home from the gym, and try to refill my 16 oz cup at least 3 times before dinner. If you know where you should be throughout the day, you can easily keep track of your intake.
Also, try to always finish your water before eating or heading out as another method to get more in.
Fun, reusable water bottles and glasses
This sounds silly, but if your water bottle becomes part of your style, you’re more likely to remember it and use it. There are so many great bottles out there that come in sizes from 9 oz to 32 oz. Below are ten of my favorites. And remember to buy a bottle cleaner brush to keep it clean and to keep you using it!
