If you’re interested in body oils but wondering about using body oil with sensitive skin, I hear ya. While it seems scary, it’s actually not bad and I use a technique that allows you to ease into using them so your skin stays happy
When I was in junior high, a dear friend imparted one of the best pieces of information to me. Her skin always looked so moisturized and when I asked, she shared her secret with me. She mixed baby oil into her lotion. It added extra hydration and a bit of shine!
What I didn’t realize at the time was that this little trick of mixing oil and lotion was going to be a lifesaver for me as I got older and my skin, for whatever reason, became more sensitive.
I shared this little tidbit of how to use body oil with sensitive skin on my Instagram stories a few months ago and had some replies thanking me for the hint, so I thought it might be worth elaborating upon here as well sharing some of my current favorite oils.
How to Use Body Oil with Sensitive Skin
When I use body and face oils on their own, it’s usually fine for a time or two. After that my skin starts to feel clogged and I can get itchy.
Instead what I like to do is add a few drops of the oil to my regular lotion. I use the oil and lotion mix everyday with absolutely no problem. My process is basic enough. I add lotion to the palm of my hand, add a little bit of oil, and rub my hands together before slathering it on my skin.
How much oil varies partially on the thickness of your lotion, so play around with it until you get it just how you want it.
So, what body oils am I using on my sensitive skin? I currently have three on my shelf and I’m controlling myself from buying more until I finish at least one of these. I told you I loved them!
The first is the Herbivore Botanicals Jasmine Body Oil. I absolutely love the smell of jasmine and this one is pretty perfect! The bottle seemed a little hard to use at first, but the pump quickly relaxed and now it’s no trouble! (also – the travel size is here)
And the third, most recent, addition is Ishga’s Invigorating Body Oil, which I picked up in Scotland. It’s made from Hebridean Sea Kelp! The scent is light and the bottle design is so easy to use!
Ok. But then I think I have my next body oils picked out, so I’ll just share those here as well. The first is by LA-based Esker. They offer a restorative oil as well as a firming oil. Their oils come in 2 sizes and are all vegan, organic, and cruelty-free.
The second one on my radar is KORA Organics Glow Body Oil, which sounds perfect for summer, doesn’t it?
