A friend recently told me that she liked my coats and I was kind of taken aback. I mean, I like my coats too, but I hadn’t thought about them being great on the whole. I really just thought of them individually. So I started thinking about how and where I find stylish outerwear…
Where to Buy Stylish Outerwear. . .
What Makes a Great Coat/Jacket?
As with most of my closet, I tend to look at coats as forever investments. While I likely won’t have my outerwear FOREVER actually, I buy with the intention that it will be a useful piece for many. many cool/cold seasons to come!
The first question to ask is if the coat is actually functional. While not ALL of my coats are 100% functional, they all mostly serve a purpose – as a heavy or light layer. The next question is whether a coat seems as though it will stand the test of time. Does everybody have the coat and it’s a recent fad or has the style really been around for a while?
Ella Check Double Breasted Blazer
My outerwear that immediately comes to mind include a black leather jacket, a plaid blazer, a jean jacket, and a long, down parka – ALL OF WHICH HAVE BEEN IN STYLE for at least a few decades! Get some outfit inspiration for coats here.
Los Gatos Fleece Jacket
I buy the majority of my outerwear at Nordstrom and Eddie Bauer. The latter has warm, stylish winter parkas that I swear by. As Winter is coming to an end, now is actually A GREAT TIME TO BUY these coats.
And all my temperate stylish outerwear is mostly from Nordstrom. Since outerwear doesn’t tend to be inexpensive, I like to shop the Anniversary Sale for coats and jackets. You don’t get to wear them immediately, but you can save quite a bit by buying them early!
