I hate shorts. Let’s just start there. Blame the facts that I’m not in love with my legs; I think knees are ugly (everyone’s, not just mine), and shorts seem to only exist in a little too short and a bit too long for my taste. But I just found the best mid-length summer shorts and I feel like a new person!
So, yeah, the fact I found some shorts I love (and ordered in every color they offer) is pretty epic in my world, but it wasn’t without a silly amount of effort.
Sacramento has a lot of days in the 90s and 100s, so shorts aren’t really optional for me anymore. I really only had one pair of shorts in the last half decade and those sadly got a sap stain on a hike some years ago in a rather awkward spot!
Best Mid-Length Summer Shorts
This summer, I knew shorts would have to be on the list to find. Of course clothes shopping isn’t exactly the same these days, is it? So I started looking online.
I hilariously found a beautiful pair of chino shorts on Nordstrom’s website only to see that they were $545! Now those might actually be the best summer shorts out there, but I will never know.
So then I had one successful week and found 3 pairs of shorts to order online. Two were on sale from Eddie Bauer and the third was this pair of chino shorts from Everlane.
One pair from EB came in no time. They fit just fine though a bit short for my liking. The second pair in the order was eventually cancelled weeks later. And the third pair of mid-length summer shorts got shipped to our LA address TWICE (I guess I didn’t catch their saved address in the order either time!). I finally had to ask my former apartment manager to forward them to me.
At this point, I worried if these darn shorts were even going to be worth all the effort. When they arrived, I put them on immediately and slowly began to completely fall in love.
The shorts sit at your waist comfortably. They have two large front pockets and one good-sized back pocket. The elastic at the waist is about 1.5″, so it’s sturdy and doesn’t hurt with extended wear.
So I basically began wearing them everyday and then decided that if I loved them so much, I’d order them in the amber and blue pinstripes! Not only are they great shorts, but Everlane is one of the companies I’m happy to support with a concern for ethical factories for production around the world and a focus on making long-lasting clothing.
Everlane does also sell a shorter length chino short in the same style with other color options as well if that’s your jam!
