The last two times we’ve moved, we’ve managed to get rid of a number of things. It never ceases to amaze me that while we thin down our possessions pre-move (including packing, loading and unloading the truck, and unpacking), we always manage to have a great deal of things to donate after we move. This time around, my closet seems to have taken the biggest hit in terms of thinning down and rediscovery (a.k.a. shopping my closet) – all together a fabulous thing!

Paring Down My Closet
It’s amazing what you learn about yourself when forced to pack and unpack your clothes. I admitted on Instagram the other day that I had too many black outerwear pieces. I kind of live for black outerwear, so much so, however, that I was having a hard time letting go. I still own most of those sweatshirts and blazers, but a number are on their way to new homes.
In addition to facing the facts about repeats in my closet, our new home has much, much less closet space for hanging clothes, so I’ve forced myself to downsize even more to fit into the space of hangers, shelves, and drawers that we have! Good job, me!
Shopping My Closet
But the exciting part of all of this is rediscovering things and going shopping in my closet. Part of that is just seeing it all as I unpacked, but the other part is a different organization of our closet. With this new setup, different things stare me in the face everyday that didn’t before – namely a few fun pairs of sneakers!
These Paul Green sneakers were a HUGE SPLURGE over five years ago. I know when I bought them only because I see them in the photos from our Rome and Siena Travel Guides from May 2014!
I got so much wear our of them then and loved them dearly, but then they found a semi-permanent home on a shelf in our closet never to see the light of day again. Until our recent move that is!! On a related note, as the new mother of a baby boy, I’m adopting a tennis show style mentality early as I assume I’ll be on-the-go just trying to keep up with him in no time!
If you’re unfamiliar with Paul Green, definitely check them out. You can learn all about their comfortable shoe philosophy, fair work conditions, and efforts to make long-lasting shoes that don’t go out of style! Nordstrom carries a large selection of their shoes. You can also catch a great deal on them on Nordstrom Rack!
