I’ve been thinking a lot recently about the new year and what I want to do around here on the blog and on Instagram. I have no big changes planned, but I want to focus on knowing ourselves better. This day and age (because I don’t think it’s just people in my generation), it seems we’re so caught up in changes to be made and what else we could be besides ourselves. I’m all about self-improvement, but I think a lot of all that starts with knowing who you are. Obviously I can’t recommend we all get to know ourselves better without sharing things about myself and I’m wondering what would be of interest and would be helpful without breaching the small bit of privacy I work hard to maintain.
Anyway, I realized this weekend that many people my age don’t bake or cook. We had some friends over for cookies and drinks (whiskey and wine)! I spent part of Friday and Saturday morning baking five different cookies. It was amazing. As guests showed up, many seemed in awe that I would bake all those cookies from scratch. It seemed so natural to me and yet it wasn’t to them. All these people (many of whom I’ve met through food blogging) who I love being with and who I feel so connected with aren’t the same as me. AND THAT’S WHAT MAKES OUR FRIENDSHIP WORK!!
I don’t know. And now I can tell I’m rambling. There’s a part of me that’s happy to know what sets me apart from some of my friends and what things really make me, me. And my friends who love being in the kitchen as much as I do seem to be boggled at my love of nice jeans and high heels. And obviously I love them all just the same. It’s the magical combination of all my friends’ interests that make up me, I suppose…
Grey Jeans Outfit
Anyway. As I’m working through what 2018 will hold here on LM, I’ve been reaching for cozy and comfortable clothes nonstop. These grey jeans are still possibly the softest, best fitting jeans I own. And this sweater just screams winter (even if the weather is still in a debate). And what better way to top off my neutral grey jeans outfit than with my brightest scarf. Well and my favorite patent leather loafers? I wore these slides to at least half of my teaching days this quarter, standing and walking way too much in them without ever hearing a complaint from my feet. They’re a splurge for sure, but if you’re looking for a great pair of comfort shoes that have a classic style, these are they!!
