Best Hotel in Mendocino

Last Thanksgiving, we ran away to Mendocino. It’s not serious, we were just craving a stress-less getaway and our kiddo had the week off school. The coast is just far enough away to be ‘away’ but not too far. And on this trip, we found the best hotel in Mendocino!

Best Hotel in Mendocino
We’ve been to Mendocino a few times. The small coast town offers some small hotels, which are pretty cute, but many spots are actually outside of the town proper – along Highway 1.
As with the “best” of anything, it’s subjective, but I think the SCP Mendocino Inn and Farm is the best hotel in Mendocino. And here’s why:

The property is a collection of buildings, ranging from more modern to Victorian buildings. They’ve been outfitted into smaller rooms, varying in size but each unique! Our room, pictured below contained a king size bed, a pull sofa, and a day bed that could easily sleep someone.
We put our little guy on the fold out and then used the day bed as our little living nook! Most of the furniture is from West Elm and all so chic.
Our room had a fireplace and was stocked with kindling and wood, so we could light fires for ambiance and warmth. There is heating inthe room as well, but the fire was a great touch.

The Mendocino Inn and Farm (not to be confused with their lodge down the road) is a 15-acre property you can wander around and there’s a walking trail through the trees just across the street toward the ocean. The rooms also have large windows and lovely seating, so you can sit and look out at beautiful views.

Besides the beautiful views, you can also see their garden, the llamas, and even their chickens, providing the eggs for the daily breakfast egg bakes! They offer feed in the main lodge so you can feed the chickens as well – a fun treat with those hungry ladies!

Sustainable Hotel Practices
I’ve shared a slew of eco travel tips , but what I also loved about the inn were there efforts to provide a more sustainable travel experience, eliminating single use amenities, avoiding daily cleanings, and overall providing a waste-less environment.
SCP has a few properties and with each stay, they donate to sustainably-focused groups and charities! Even their breakfasts are delicious and filling but with little waste and no single-use items. I love myself a real coffee cup, a linen napkin, and glass containers for my food.
One of our favorite parts is that breakfast was delivered to us each morning. Upon checking, you let them know about any allergies, a preference of coffee or tea, and a few other details. At the designated time, a basket of freshly made breakfast goodies is delivered to your door!
We were able to make a few amendments after the first day as well as we learned more about what was provided. For us, it was generally an egg bake, a homemade muffin, and chia yogurt for each of us. We were able to ask for just scrambled eggs for our kiddo and replace one of the yogurts with extra egg bake for my husband!
