Crunchi Makeup Review

Crunchi Makeup Review

It’s been over a year since I started using Crunchi skincare. After a few samples, I wanted to give their cosmetics a try, so here is my Crunchi makeup review to complete the first of my Crunchi reviews, which focused on skincare. In short, I love their makeup – with just 1 exception…

Crunchi Makeup Review

Crunchi Makeup Review

I’ve said it a number of times here and definitely more on my sustainable Instagram account, great looking makeup and that natural look are really only going to happen with healthy, happy skin. It’s why I talk about clean beauty and non toxic makeup brands so much! It’s also how you can achieve a minimalist makeup routine.

If you’re looking for some go-to brands, Crunchi absolutely has to be one of them – rigorously tested, 3rd party certified, and wildly effective (yet gentle enough for sensitive skin). So it’s probably no surprise that their makeup is just as clean, but how does it look and work??

The thing to know about Crunchi makeup is that it’s just as clean, safe, and effective as their skincare. Furthermore, it is helpful to know that they don’t use anything synthetic, including colorants, so you may find the color varieties fewer than other brands. BUT they are great products and I find the colors blend much more naturally with my skin (while still holding up to my expectations).

You can read more below, but my absolute favorites are the tinted SPF (I wear light-medium), their flawless foundation (I wear 2.5), and the liquid blush! They’re divine, but you’ll see that most of my Crunchi makeup reviews are rave reviews!!

Crunchi Makeup Review

I wanted to give you a helpful report, so this Crunchi makeup review includes:

Smart Primer Review

Crunchi’s smart primer is very similar to a moisturizer in feeling and look, which makes sense since makeup will only look good on top of hydrated skin. The thicker moisturizer blends beautifully into the skin and then sits wonderfully for makeup to go on smoothly. I really quite like it!

Crunchi Concealer Review

Their My Alibi Liquid Concealer was actually the first Crunchi makeup product I bought – because it’s what I needed at the time. I will repeat this throughout this review, but a little goes a looooong way with all Crunchi makeup and skin care.

The first time I used the Crunchi concealer, I dabbed it around both eyes and was overwhelmed by how much extra product I had. Now I actually put it on the back of my had and blend it where needed (and beyond) with this blending brush. As with all their products (and any makeup), you can always add more.

The color is spot on for me (I’m using L15), doesn’t rest in creases or dry out, and it goes on easily. So – loving the Crunchi concealer.

Tinted SPF & Crunchi Foundation Review

Tinted SPF & Crunchi Foundation Review

Ok, so face products. Crunchi now has two options – their beloved Beautifully Flawless Foundation and now their Sunlight Tinted SPF 30. It feels important to start out by saying that I have a tinted SPF on nearly everyday – applied just with rubbing it on with my hands or applying it with my foundation brush for more coverage. Their foundation, however, is actually really enjoyable to use, which is a shocking statement coming from me…

The Beautifully Flawless Foundation is a lovely product – one of the cleanest foundations on the market! I wear shade 2.5 and the color is pretty spot on for my complexion. One quirky thing to note is that Crunchi foundation might look too warm at first, but it will cool within a minute or so, so give you skin a second to test a color before making a decision. And, again, I will say how little you need. I use about one whole pump of product on my entire face – so you can see the container will last a while!

I love the pump as well – it makes controlling the amount of product dispersed each time more controlled, so you don’t waste product. The foundation doesn’t dry out, and you can see from the images below that it isn’t super dewy. And, science moment, it has snow mushroom in it which actually hydrates your skin throughout the day. I’ve never had a heavy or dry feeling with this foundation on. It’s GOLD!!

I happen to like a slightly dewy finish and most days I have no patience for applying a full face of makeup. Because of that, I love the Sunlight Tinted SPF 30 for some sun protection, a bit of color correction, and the 1st of my 3 steps everyday must-haves.

Just like the foundation, it has the pump, which I love. I know exactly how much I’ll need to get the job done. As you can see, it has good coverage, but isn’t opaque like the foundation and it is a bit dewy, but it isn’t very dewy. I really love it. I wear the light-medium shade.

Liquid Blush Review

The Cheekmate Liquid Blush is my first time using liquid blush – I was previously using a blush stick, however, so the application idea is similar. I use the Guava liquid blush and really love it.

To use a liquid blush, apply a few dots along your cheek bone. Use your third or fourth fingers tips or a cream blush brush to TAP it into place. Tapping is more effective than rubbing at leaving more color on your skin. Use rubbing merely to fix up anything. Get step-by-step photos in this post on how to apply liquid blush!

So, again, a little goes a long way. Depending on how much color I’m looking for on my cheeks, I use 3-6 light dots of the liquid blush and then tap it in or dab it on the back of my hand if using the brush. I love the guava hue – it’s a very low key color that is quite buildable and lovely. For a more pronounced color, the pomegranate is a great color for warmer undertones. I love the Crunchi liquid blush.

Crunchi Mascara Review

Crunchi Mascara Review

I was hesitant to try the Crunchi mascara as reviews were so mixed, but I was determined to try as many Crunchi cosmetics as I could, so I ordered the Shattered Mascara and will add my review to my ever expanding natural mascara reviews.

So, the Crunchi mascara has been a little hard for me to get a handle on, but I think I’ve got it now. First, it’s a clean formula and it uses a fiber wand, which is my preferred wand. The first few uses, the application amount was minimal, but I’ll always remember from my DiorShow mascara days that the first few applications, if light, shouldn’t be trusted.

So, after a couple applications, the application was fine enough for me – you can see it in the SPF/foundation images above. SO, the application process has been good for me – easy, peasy.

Here’s the rub, for me, some days the mascara is fantastic – no issues. I basically forget I’m wearing mascara. Other days, my eyes are a little itchy and dry and the mascara smudges or flakes. I’ve realized that though my eyes aren’t super sensitive, they are sensitive, and if it’s windy or dry outside, my eyes get a little irritated with this mascara.

And then sometimes I’d get smudges under my eye. It’s like everyday was different. I’m not one for mascara that isn’t perfect and the Shattered Mascara just doesn’t cut it for me. I’ll be sticking with this mascara (in the petite size), however.

Crunchi Cosmetics Review - Eyeshadow bar and new highliner eye pencil review

Crunchi Makeup – Eyeliner Reviews

If you used the previous Crunchi eyeliner formula, you HAVE to try the NEW Highliner Pencil. It has a creamy consistency and goes on beautifully. You can see it above in the photo. And here’s a video I did on the eyeliner (it’s beautiful) – available in espresso brown and black.

Eyebrow Pencil

A friend tried the Nutribrow Eyebrow Pencil and raved about it, so I gave it a go. I use the lightest color they offer – shade 1. I have to tell you that my platinum blonde hair makes my eyebrows look much darker than they are. I’ve always used the lightest colored brow pencils and many of them are actually too dark.

This is the first brow pencil I’ve used in YEARS that doesn’t have a pencil sharpener with it and I’m still getting used to it, but not having the extra metal and plastic-material wand is WAY MORE SUSTAINABLE.

I do really like the eyebrow pencil application and color. There isn’t anything pizzazy about it, but it works well!

Side note – I’ve used a brow serum this year and my brows have absolutely filled in. Read my eyebrow growth serum review and photos to see the results!

Shadow Bar Eyeshadow Palettes

I don’t wear a ton of eyeshadow and the eyeshadow I wear isn’t going to be bright and shiny. I love an understated vibe, so the Crunchi matte neutrals is my go-to eyeshadow palette. You can read all about it’s cleanliness perfection in my writeup on clean eyeshadow palettes.

Because Crunchi cosmetics only contain earth pigments rather than synthetic colors, the colors blend so beautifully. It’s buildable and lovely. I wish you could order refills, but their completely recyclable packaging isn’t conducive to that business model, which I totally get.

Crunchi Lipstick – Lip Crayon & Lip Oil Review

Crunchi has two types of lip products – the Everluxe lip crayon and the Hydrogloss Lip Oil. The lip crayon is going to give you more of that lipstick look, but since it’s in a stick form (but goes on very smoothly), it has more staying power!

I didn’t try the lip oils for a while because I’m not a lip gloss person. Now that I have, I’m IN LOVE. A lip oil is not a lip gloss. It’s not tacky or sticky at all. It also is a hydrating layer (like a tinted chapstick), so this isn’t for long lasting color. For that, you’ll want the crayon. You can use the lip oil with the lip crayon, however, to add some shine or minimize the intensity of the color.

I love the lip crayons. I think they’re easy to apply with a chubby stick style. The color stays on well and the color fades uniformly for me (i.e. no awkward lip line left). You can see a few of the colors on me above. I just love them!
