Natural Christmas Dessert Decorations

It’s dessert decorating season and while I love sprinkles (A LOT), I’m even more in love with these natural Christmas Cake decorations (for any dessert you’re having this season).

I’ve talked about my preference for seasonal ingredients as food decor rather than dyes a lot. It’s why I share ideas for Valentine’s Day appetizer boards, St. Patrick’s Day grazing boards, and even these mini Christmas tarts and Christmas cheesecake bars in years past have natural toppings that are just as festive as anything prepackaged on the shelf!

So here is an extended version of all my favorite natural dessert topping ideas!

Whether you buy your desserts or you make them yourself (or a combo like me – cake mix and homemade whipped cream – try alcohol infused whipped cream!), these dessert toppings can be done by you and look so stylish!

While I tried to show as many option as I could here, in reality, I would probably only pick 1-3 toppings for a cake or cupcakes and then repeat them. Right now my favorite are the dried orange slices, star anise, and the fresh rosemary. I’m guessing I’ll have different picks next week, however!

Easy Cake Decorations

None of these Christmas cake decoration ideas is complicated, so the easiest is the one you have at home.

We always have bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise in my spice drawer – year round.

The fresh herbs – lemon balm, mint, and rosemary – are easily attainable year round, which is easy enough. Sometimes we even have it out in our garden.

This time of year, kiwis and pomegranates aren’t uncommon, but they aren’t necessarily guaranteed either.

So just go with what sounds good and/or what you have easy access to!

These homemade pastel mints are also perfect – they require some baking but they’re edible and adorable!!
