Porte + Hall Review

We live under a bunch of beautiful trees…and we’re constantly tracking things into the house! I knew with our real life, a cheap and cute outdoor mat just wasn’t going to cut it. We needed something that could clean up easily and not look tacky (want more than need), so we gave the Porte and Hall outdoor ‘Outlier‘ mat a try – first to the entrance to the ADU. Here is our honest Porte and Hall review…

Porte and Hall Review
There are a few reasons the Porte + Hall mats caught my eye. First is their durability. It’s plastic, which I don’t love, BUT it’s got nice bristles to help catch things coming into the house and they offer a recycling program, whereby they turn used mats into new mats.
I usually avoid plastic, especially when it comes to single-use items (which this is not). And I still might have said no, but the fact that the company recycles the mats into new mats is a plus in my book. Yes, it’s still plastic, but it’s durably made and built to last a while (whereas most mats fall apart within a season or two of outdoor living).
I also liked that it’s advertised as self-draining. Since the mat will sit outside in the elements (and we certainly get rain), I needed this feature for sure! I also like that they’re made here is the US, so there’s a drastic cut in emissions were it produced internationally. But let’s get to the review…

Outlier Outdoor Mat Full Review
We’ve been really happy with the Porte and Hall outdoor mat. The bristles do indeed catch things on the bottom of our shoes. It does also just catch stuff going by, but a quick flip of the mat gets most of the flora (thankfully, no fauna I can see) off!
The small cuts that help the mat drain (see picture below) do indeed work! I did notice that it’s a little slower to dry underneath and since I’m a bit moldaphobic (is that a thing?), I looked and quickly flipped out the extra water.
Honestly, it’s quite arid here in Sacramento, so I can’t imagine there’d be any issues, but I share in case you live in a humid area.
And, finally, the mat looks really nice. Unlike other mats, this one doesn’t show wear or deterioration. It can easily be cleaned and easily moved! I wanted to use this one for a bit before committing to more for other doors around our house, but I think we’ll be buying another one for the back door of our house!
And as someone who liked to walk around barefoot, I imagine the mat will be HOT this summer on my bare feet, but I’ll just be careful!
*The Porte and Hall mat shown in this review is the Outlier in Charcoal. I didn’t notice the dual colors when I picked it out online, but it’s lovely in person. It’s available in 8 color options, so you can get just what you’re looking for.
The Outlier Mat only comes in one size. it measures 21″ x 36″ with a ¾” thickness. The mat itself weighs 9 lbs, so it’s got some weight to keep it in place. The size is perfect in front of a standard door size – 36″ wide. I wouldn’t get a different size if they had one.
Outdoor Mat Questions
Is the Porte and Hall mat slippery when wet?
Nope. There really aren’t any big enough surface areas to cause a slippery problem.
Can you hose it off?
Absolutely, yes! Hosing it off is great if it gets a lot of dirt on there. I usually jut have fluff and leaves, so a simple flip and shake does the trick.
Will it damage wood or concrete underneath?
No. You can see the bottom of the mat just below – nothing scratchy or harmful.
Does it curl or move around?
No! This is one of the great parts – it stays put. The mat weighs 9 pounds, so the weight helps to keep it in place. And I think the drainage holes also help it not get carried away.
