The LUCI Bra

Proper Fitting of a Bra

There are many amazing things I’ve been able to do as a blogger, but getting to design a bra was one I never dreamed of. It’s such a unique and personal item and as somebody who long struggled to find bras that fit well and were enjoyable to wear, designing the perfect bra to me was really so exciting! When I stumbled on The Little Bra Company over a decade ago, I didn’t understand the goldmine I’d found. With their help, I learned the proper fitting of a bra and why most bras never worked for me. So let’s get to it. SHOP THE LUCI BRA HERE.

Proper Fitting of a Bra

When it comes to the proper fitting of a bra, there are a few things to know. You might know about the band size and cup size, but the gap between your breasts is another key factor that almost all brands completely ignore. The straps are also very important – they need to be adjusted to properly support and lift you. Finally, features we don’t often think about are the width of the band under our arms and the width of the band where the hooks are. So, let’s recap the checklist for the proper fitting of a bra

  • band size – the measurement at the top of your rib cage right under the bust (not too tight, not too loose). Make sure the measuring tape is level in the back.
  • cup size – the measurement around the fullest part of your bust (not too tight, not too loose – and without padding of any kind ). Make sure the measuring tape is level in the back.
  • width between breasts – easily measured with your fingers (more below)
  • straps – easily adjusted but must be snug on shoulder – not too tight or loose. proper strap tautness = proper support and lift of breasts
  • width of band – if you have “side boob,” more coverage under your arm will help.
  • closure – the width of band and number of hooks for proper support

Now that I know about all these measurements, you can imagine comfort and fit were the first items to consider when creating the Luci Bra. This bra is available in all the following sizes: 28A, 30A, 32A, 34A, 36A, 38A, 28B, 30B, 32B, 34B, 36B, 28C, 30C, 32C, 34C, 28D, 30D, 32D, 32AA, 34AA, and 36AA. This covers a range of small busted cup sizes and band sizes

If you’ve followed me for any length of time, you’ll know I’m wide-set (more below), so you can bet this bra is designed with extra space between the cups and more lift/support on the outer cups. The Luci bra also has a thicker band in the underarm area, providing coverage for any “side boob,” which by the way is just healthy tissue, but I know how irksome it can be!

The bra straps are adjustable and the band is 2″ with three hooks in the back (and 3 sets of hooks to provide 1.5″ of room to adjust for proper fitting bra for YOUR body).

With all the comfort and fit details sorted, it was time to make it beautiful and lifting without taking away any of the integrity of fit and comfort.

I opted for the gorgeous olive green color with a hefty amount of lace for that sexy feel, but only in all the right places, so the bras was everyday functional! Lace lays on the outer third of the cups and along the bottom of the cups. It also reappears along the back, around the closure hooks.

Proper Fitting of a Bra for Wide Set Breasts

Proper Fitting of a Bra for Wide Set Breasts

Ok. So…wide set breasts – this is something NO BRANDS are talking about except The Little Bra Company and it has literally been the one thing that makes bras not fit on me. And it’s the same for all of us of all sizes – the width between your breasts is crucial to a bra fitting properly.

So, do you have wide set breasts? To find out, use your fingers to measure the distance between your breasts (without a bra on). If you can only fit 1-2 fingers between your breasts, you are narrow set. If you can fit 3 or more fingers between your breasts, you are wide set. Spoiler alert: I can fit at least 4 fingers between my breasts – I’m incredibly wide set and this bra fits even me!

If you’ve ever noticed the amount of material between the cups of a bra, this is where that comes in. The proper fitting of a bra for wide set breasts will have space between cups. You will not have “space” between your breast and the bra toward the center (which seat belt and purse straps always want to hang out). You should not have any tissue coming out (spilling over) the outer edge of the cups either.

And if you have wide set breasts, you HAVE to check out the Luci Bra – a fewllow wide set woman designed it with you in mind!!
