Blazer to Wear with Black Jeans

I got into blazers a while ago – ten years maybe – and then didn’t think much of it until a dear friend commented last year that I introduced her to the ease of wearing a blazer to step up a simple tee and pants ensemble. So now I embrace blazer outfits even more. And since I love little more than black jeans in my closet, here are my ideas for blazers to wear with black jeans (without looking like pantsuit)!
Important side note: This is my favorite pair of black denim at the moment!

Which Blazer to wear with Black Jeans
At the moment, I have 3-4 blazers and my favorites to wear with my jeans outfits are my plaid blazer (elbow patches and all), and my tan/brown suede jackets. The combination of browns and grays pairs so beautifully against the dark of black jeans. If you need more outfit inspiration, see all my ideas for what to wear with black jeans (more than just blazers)!
Printed or Pattern Blazers
If you’re wearing black jeans and a plain top (tee, blouse, or sweater), a print or patterned blazer is LOVELY. Seriously. It’s a fun way to add some pizazz to an outfit. This was probably the combo that first got me into blazer outfits (see it in How to Wear Jogger Pants to Work where I pair it with some gorgeous black pants)
Black or White Blazers
Black and white blazers with black jeans is more ‘professional,’ but it’s easy to break that apart a bit and make them more comfortable and approachable (unless you’re going for that look). You can also get an off white here to break up the contrast of black and white.
Other solid colors of blazers just aren’t as “worky” (professional word there, obviously). THe only thing to keep in mind with other solid colors of blazers is whether they match well with warm/cool colors and then what you tend to wear more. Are you often in more red tinted colors (warmer)? Or perhaps you find yourself in bluer hues (cooler)? Just keep it on the same color vibe to make it universal.
Tan/Brown Blazers
This is my favorite combinations right now – tan or warm brown blazers with black jeans. I stumbled on brown blazers on our trip to Italy this spring and was hoping to find the right one – and boy did I – perfectly fitting to my broad shoulders and long torso. I plan to have it for YEARS!!
How To Wear A Blazer With Black Jeans
Printed Blazer with Black Jeans
Interestingly, most of my wardrobe is plain tees, tops, and bottoms. My outerwear is wear I get “frivolous.” A classic pattern or design is memorable and “quintessentially Luci” in an unexpected way. And I can’t tell you why, but it just works! I like to pull out colors in the patterns for my shirt. See how easy it is in my turtleneck with blazer outfit.
White Blazer & Black Jeans
I think a white blazer with black jeans is a fun contrast, but it’s on the bolder side. You can break up the contrast a bit with a light colored or small patterned top. Something floral would be super cute. Here are some more ideas for white blazer outfits!

Black or Dark Blue Blazer with Black Jeans
This is my one homage to a black on black look here. The pant suit (is that a power suit?) isn’t really my style. If you’re not going for the look either, then you can absolutely pull it together but use your top and accessories to soften the look. Here I did a striped top, a super fun beret, and ballet flats. It has an airy Parisian look that’s pulled together but not overbearing!
Tan/brown blazer with black jeans
This is the quintessential, classic, elegant, elevated vibe for a blazer to wear with black jeans! Ok, that was a lot maybe (maybe?), but I mentioned that I’m currently obsessed with this look. I’ve long loved the combination of black and camel brown. I’m finally maturing into darker browns (still on the warm side) – and now it’s all coming together.
The tan is a classic look and it contrasts beautifully with the black jeans. Wearing a blazer is always going to give a classic vibe (for men and women), but having that slightly longer cut updates it for sure.
While my plaid blazer is tailored at the waist more, these ones are looser, allowing my my skinny black jeans to take center stage for emphasizing my body shape. It’s a look that looks fabulous with heels, flats, or sneakers!
With neutral solid hues, a print scarf is always an easy and elegant addition. See how to style a silk scarf like I am here and then this is the best travel scarf (and see how I like to style it).
