The Best Travel Scarf

Of all the basics and packing lists I could write up, the best travel scarf has to be one of the most basic (and yet most important) things to share, right? As I try to pack less and less (especially for our international travel), I’ve been leaning more into some choice accessories, but no matter how much I’m packing or where we’re headed, if it’s apt to be cool at all, my fringe scarf is in my bag!

The Best Travel Scarf

I can’t remember exactly when I bought this scarf, but I have pictures in my phone dating back to 2018. I used to have (and wear) quite a collection of scarves. I had a few versatile printed scarves (yes, me!). And then somewhere along the line, I realized I needed just a plain black one – for those elegant affairs.

And now this “plain” scarf is my go-to on every trip and for every occasion. The fringe adds a bit of fun without getting in the way. The lightweight wool/cashmere blend is lightweight but warm. And at 76″ long, I find it’s just the right length for a few styles – meaning a few ways to wear/wrap the scarf.

My Favorite Ways to Wear Scarves

I usually wear my scarf one of two ways. One is just wrapped twice around my neck with both ends/fringe hanging down in front of me. The second is a bit more complicated but really my preferred way…

Fold the scarf in half and then place around your neck so the two fringed ends are in front of your left shoulder. Pass your right hand through the loop of the scarf in front of your right shoulder. Pull one fringed end through the loop. Twist the loop once, below the pulled through end. Pull the other fringed end through the newly created loop. Adjust to preferred tightness. Here the picture rundown…

And then when I’m cool, I’ll wear my scarf like a shawl!

This scarf is part of my Ireland packing list, my fall weekend packing list, and, of course, in my long flight essentials checklist!
