Kids’ Fruit Platter

fter School Snack Ideas - Kids Snack Platter

This kids appetizer board idea is such a simple one, but I’m embarrassed how long it’s taken me to make up – might have to do with not having a kiddo until now!

Over the decade of blogging at Luci’s Morsels, a few themes have come to be – namely denim, leather jackets, sangria recipes, and charcuterie boards (and sustainable living, of course). I felt as though I’d done what I could on the latter (see this trader joe’s charcuterie board and this breakfast charcuterie board).

But obviously I was living in a silly charcuterie hole because there are so, so many more ways to enjoy the basic appetizer board setup like this after school snack idea that’s tasty for kids but honestly delicious enough that I may or may not have versions of it for lunch all the time…

Kids Appetizer Board

Every day after naptime, our little guy’s first request is to have snack. It’s usually an impossibly simple combination, but it must include raisins and crackers.

MUST INCLUDE RAISINS AND CRACKERS! It’s serious.

I try to add cheese or peanut butter when I can for some protein, but he doesn’t always go for it.

Anyway, as we’re starting to have friends over and getting back into entertaining (often friends with kids), I wanted to have a go to setup that was healthy and fairly simple.

Usually snack boards are thought of as only fitting for a party and usually only for adults, but why not take the fun of arranging tasty foods together and mix it with some healthy fruits and veggies and some tasty dips.

Adult + Kid Grazing Board

So, I wasn’t really exaggerating when I said my lunch may or may not look like this quite frequently. I often do sliced apple with nut butter and/or carrots and hummus, and a slice of cheese for my lunch. I always have all of the ingredients; it’s healthy; and it isn’t too heavy!

Same goes for this great snack board. Sliced apples and pears join carrot sticks for the healthy crunch.

And the nut butter mixed with cinnamon as well as the ricotta and honey….well, I told you the adults would love this snack board as much as the kids!

And the entertainer in me is loving this healthy snack board as a great appetizer idea that works for kids and adults.

As more of our friends have kids getting older, we want to offer options for everyone. And this may seem silly, but this whole setup would go great with juice or wine depending on who’s coming over!

Easy Fruits & Veggies for Kids?

So. I will be the first person to acknowledge that our little guy enjoys more types of produce than most kids. It even surprises us from time to time.

With that said, however, there are some common options. And – you know I have to say it – including seasonal produce is always encouraged.

While it’s sustainable, I feel it’s also more enjoyable. Fruits and veggies taste better in season, so chances are higher your kiddos will like them more too.

Besides seasonal fruits and veggies, however, also think about adding in dried fruits as needed. And if you don’t have the ingredients for the dips, slice some cheese and stack some crackers. Any grazing board (kids appetizer board or swanky setup like this fall charcuterie board) is always open to interpretation!

I like making this “Halloween Snack Mix” that’s actually great year round and festive for fall. It’s delicious for kiddos and adults alike and not filled with anything I don’t want in our food!

If you want to get kids involved in the kitchen, try making homemade ritz peanut butter crackers! Depending on their age, they can help with the shape-cutting, dought placement on the pan, and the peanut butter spreading!

    1. My pleasure! There’s no cheese on this board, but I certainly do cheese for my son now. Plain yogurt would be a really fun dip idea though!!

Kids will surely attack on the plate but while preparing it I am the first :). Such a delicious and mouthwatering dip to make with fruits slices.
