Amour Vert Review

One of the last things I got into when we started living more sustainably was fashion. Unlike many other facets of life, I was nervous was sustainable fashion would look like. As it turns out, it’s chic and stylish with eco materials and sustainable fashion brands like Amour Vert that make it all easy. With a few seasons of their clothes in my closet, I’m so excited to share their Amour Vert review!

Founded in California, Amour Vert embodies classic French chic with everyday California vibes – so, it’s me in a lot of ways! Everything from their lines are elegant but not necessarily too fancy or rigid. They have beautiful pieces for work, for play, and for everyday (yes, I’m saying that as a mom to a wiggly kiddo)!

While I’ve managed to hedge through making sustainable fashion choices by searching for organic women’s clothing material, recycled products, second hand options, and buying locally – it’s a bit of work. So when I found out that Amour Vert did all this across their line, and focused on ethical production, AND used compostable/recyclable packaging, I was relieved (and very excited).

Every item they sell uses different materials, but here are a lot of the materials they use most:

  • deadstock fabrics (i.e. fabric otherwise heading to the landfill)
  • recycled cashmere (and it’s soooo good)
  • washable silk (made from bluesign factories – fabrics and accessories made only with approved chemicals in a resource-conserving way… with reduced impact on people and the environment)
  • recycled sateen (helps keep synthetic materials out of landfills)
  • Organic cotton
  • modal (TENCEL made in the US that’s soft and machine washable)

The company also sells a number of sustainable jeans brands, all of which only produce to order, and sustainable shoes companies, including Veja (read my veja sneakers review).

But just because it’s sustainable, does it hold up? The answer is emphatically, yes!! I got a few sweaters and a wool coat last year. I wore them lots, including the sweaters on my Ireland packing list (which wasn’t huge), and put them away in my winter clothes storage boxes. And now I’m anxiously awaiting to pull it all out again for another fall and winter of wear.

One of the things I also really love and want to include in my Amour Vert review is that a number of the pieces I got last year are still available this year, meaning they aren’t just cycling through styles and clothing. There’s so much intentionality. The items still available?? This organic cotton ivory and tan striped sweater, their gorgeous recycled cashmere sweaters (available in 10 colors, pull over and button styles), and buttery soft bamboo knit turtleneck (so, so good for layering)!

New this season and simply divine?? This boyfriend blazer – it fits my like a dream!! Their open front cardigan made with 50% recycled wool and 31% recycled Nylon. This olive green organic cotton shirtdress – perfect for layering all fall and winter. See my tips for how to wear dresses in Winter for helpful layering tricks to stay warm.
