Sustainable Heels

Spring Work Outfit with Pumps

Ooh, Nelly, does it feel good to be in heels. Post-kid life, post-“demic” life, and just life-life have really cut back on the need and desire for heels, but I feel a change in the weather and these new sustainable heels are answering the call! (scroll down for Sarah Flint Discount Code)

Sustainable Heels

I’ve mentioned recently (here or in my newsletter) that I want to learn more and share more about stylish sustainability. So much of the sustainable living blog and messaging is, well, not that chic – let’s be honest. But the truth is that sustainability and style don’t need to be mutually exclusive.

More and more companies are turning toward more eco-friendly materials and production. Others have been doing it for a while but are working to improve.

So whether you’re looking for famous B Corp companies or just want to bask in all the sustainable shoe brands and lines out there, I’m here for you and for it!

What Makes Shoes Sustainable?

Ahh, yes, the million dollar question. I go into more detail about why most shoes aren’t sustainable in that post, but the key points are:

  • materials are usually petroleum-based
  • production is a pollutant and huge waste of water
  • shoes can so rarely be recycled or upcycled once they’ve been worn by one person – primarily due to all the different materials and the glues holding them together

So many companies are changing that, however. While I LOVE companies who based their whole business on creating eco-friendlier options at their founding, there are a lot of great companies that are adding more sustainable lines and working to change over their longstanding business model to greener options!

If you’ve never heard of Sarah Flint before, then I’m very excited to introduce you!

My stylish (and fellow PhD) friend, Sanae, introduced me to the shoe designer a while back. Sarah Flint is a direct-to-consumer, designer, luxury shoe brand. Silhouettes are covetable; everything is handcrafted in Italy; and shoes are so comfortable with padding and arch support!

Preserving craftsmanship and keeping production in Italy – something true of the whole brand – are two things that make SF shoes more sustainable. Avoiding large factories and sourcing pieces from a single region keeps transportation emissions down, labor equity and treatment better, and helps to preserve a craft.

More exciting to me, however, is the recent launch of the Sarah Flint Sustainable Steps Collection.

Sustainable Steps Collection

Taking these to the next level, Sarah Flint launched this Perfect Round Toe Pump with less waste in mind.

The suede is sourced from an LWG gold-rated manufacturer; the insole is manufactured with zero waste; the foam in the padding is biodegradable, and the outsole is made from 100% recycled leather, from manufacturing waste! AND THEY LOOK AND FEEL AMAZING!! Not to mention, they’re available in 4 colors at the moment and the line is expected to grow!

You can also see how I styled the Mirjana wedges (also part of the sustainable collection) in this 80 degree weather outfit idea that’s chic and oh so comfortable!

Here’s the thing about sustainable fashion. To a certain degree, it feels as though you have to give up on a bit of quality or a bit of style to get something better for the planet. But with a bit of research, you’ll be pleasantly surprised how little you have to give up. You really can have it all!

I want them all!

Oh, I get it! I told you they were gorgeous! And the padding and support really are wonderful!

As with anything, however, less is more. This fabulous style comes in four colors, including this cognac brown, a light blue, a gray, and black suede.

I initially planned on the black suede, but I just couldn’t pass up the ‘cognac.’ This is a color you’ll see throughout my accessories because it always proves to be perfect for my style. So pick the color that’s right for you, to get the most wear for years and years to come!
