Sarah Flint Review

Black leather Jacket - Sarah Flint

My friend was raving about Sarah Flint shoes for a few years before I got my first pair – and I wish I’d listened sooner. Sarah Flint shoes are so incredibly well-made and, maybe more importantly, they are comfortable heels – no, really! Sarah Flint shoes have been a fabulous addition to my wardrobe! They’re classic, comfortable, stylish, and sustainable!

Sarah Flint Shoes

I first shared these Sarah Flint Pumps back in my first sustainable heels post. Luxury shoe designer Sarah Flint is slowly working to add more sustainable styles and facets to her coveted collection of shoes.

The first shoe in the lineup (simply called the “Sustainable Stepscollection) is this perfect pump (round toe). And while it originally only came in this cognac and a black (truthfully all this muted color lover needs), they’re now available in 6 colors (more below).

Additionally, the styles in the sustainable collection are growing with each season. Also included are the mary jane heels (ADORABLE!).

Are Sarah Flint Pumps Comfortable?

Yep! So I think it goes without saying that no matter how wonderful a heel is, nothing will make it feel like Birkenstocks, but that’s ok cuz they aren’t meant to look the same.

The heel is 70mm which is a tall 2.75.” This height isn’t out of my wheelhouse, but these days, it’s about the extent of it.

The block heel always offers more support and comfort, but the true comfort comes from the anatomical arch support as well as the extra padding added to the footbed and toe box.

She also offers a slew of flat and low styles like these ballerina flats and loafers. Need inspo? See how to wear loafers!

How do the Perfect Pumps Fit?

The website says to order one size up and I absolutely should’ve listened to that when I ordered, opting for my normal heels size instead (I never said I was perfect)!

So they run a touch small. One thing to note is that the toe-covering has the angled cut, so you get a peek of the tops of your toes.

When I first put them on, I thought the shoes looked too tight, but they fit just fine!

Are they Sustainable?

You know I’m all about learning and buying sustainable, stylish clothing and accessories. While the entire Sarah Flint line isn’t perfect on the sustainability front (more below), the Sustainable Steps collection is pretty awesome.

The suede is sourced from an LWG (Leather Working Group) gold-rated manufacturer; the insole is manufactured with zero waste; the foam padding is biodegradable, and the outsole is made from 100% recycled leather, from manufacturing waste! Cool, right?!

Are Sarah Flint Shoes Sustainable?

When I first started wearing Sarah Flint, they were launching their first ever Sustainable Steps collection. It included just this shoe in black and brown leathers. They added a few other colorways, but they’ve since diminished this sustainable line – sadly. The Sarah Flint brand does do many things that are sustainable, however, so while they play them down, i will play them up.

The entire line of Sarah Flint shoes preserves craftsmanship and their entire production occurs in Italy (sourcing to production). This keeps transportation emissions down, labor equity and treatment better, and helps to preserve a craft.

Sarah Flint uses only LWG-rated-gold leather in their shoes. You can read more about LWG-rated sustainable leather here, but this is a major win.

All shoes are also shipped plastic free. You can see the packaging and get all the details in this video – down to the compostable shoe sticks made from beets! Plastic free shipping is really an amazing way for companies to minimize waste and emissions.

The original perfect pump in the Sustainable Steps collection is still made with their eco-heel, upcycled materials, and with limited waste. No other shoes in their lineup are made with these materials, as nearly as I can tell. Good on You – a 3rd party evaluator of sustainability – rates Sarah Flint as “Good,” which is wonderful!

Overall, I think Sarah Flint is doing a lot of things right on the sustainability front. I think many of their customers don’t prioritize sustainability at the moment, so that may not have been a good business decision for them. I hope that this all changes in the future, however.

This ensemble is also a great leather jacket work outfit!

She also has BEAUTIFUL scarves, one of which I wore a lot in northern Italy. See how I wore it here in my Italy packing list write up.

Who is the Perfect Pump Best For?

  • Classic wardrobe builders who want a timeless pump
  • Heels wearers seeking more comfort than typical stilettos
  • Those who value sustainability in fashion

FAQ – Sarah Flint Perfect Pump Shoes

Are Sarah Flint pumps worth the price?

Sarah Flint pumps are on the expensive side compared to many average brands. They are designed and built, however, like designer brands. I’d actually argue that they’re built a lot better than most designer brand pumps. When compared in that light, SF prices seem great.

So, yes, I think Sarah Flint pumps are worth the price, but I ill also tell you that they have periodic sitewide sales and a great sale section – most of my shoes (and my silk scarf) come during those times.

Do Sarah Flint pumps run true to size?

I own a few styles of Sarah Flint shoes and they aren’t all in the same size. My pumps that are in the perfect pump collection, however, do run true to size for me. Outside of that line of shoes, it’s a little less dependable. If they run one way or the other, however, they run small versus running large.

Are Sarah Flint heels comfortable for all-day wear?

If any heel is comfortable for all-day wear, then, yes, the Sarah Flint heels are comfortable for all day wear. I could never wear the truly high heels all day, but the low 1″ heel would be fine.

In comparing my Sarah Flint heels to other designer heels (namely my Gucci heels from my wedding), however, the padding and support in the sole is a STARK difference. You can feel about a ½″ of padding on the SF heels where the other feels like it has a thin piece of something, a little rubber sole and nothing more. Sarah Flint shoes tend to have a wider toe box too – even the pointier toe version have a wider toe box. Depending on the width of your feet, however, this may or may not be enough.

The big takeaway here is the shoes in the “perfect collection” are very comfortable. Shoes outside of that collection lack the support and padding, so they won’t be great for those of us with more sensitive feet! Reviewers with mixed feelings may be comparing shoes in and out of this collection.

How do the sustainable materials in Sarah Flint shoes hold up over time?

Sarah Flint uses a variety of sustainable materials in their perfect collection (not in every shoe), including foam made form natural latex. Other aspects of their sustainable materials include limiting waste, so the materials are the same!

If they or I didn’t tell you there were sustainable materials in Sarah Flint shoes, you’d never know. The quality is impeccable!

  1. Like your black outfits! Looks so polish! Could you advise where you have bought the jacket? I was looking at Sezane, Kowtow and Dressarte Paris, but I could not find the eco jacket

Thank you, Anna! This jacket is by All Saints (https://bit.ly/4aLDgwe). Amour Vert has a recycled leather jacket that’s very similar and eco (made of recycled leather!) (https://bit.ly/3TYcCdE)! You can use code FIRSTORDERAV for 10% off your first order too!
