Autumn Blazers
I didn’t think anything beyond a simple tailored black blazer was for me until I was about 30. Then I inherited an oversized blazer from my mom and then eyed my most favorite plaid blazer (complete with elbow patches) a few years later, and now I can’t get enough of these pieces. Autumn blazers are such a fun way to add some structured depth to outfits otherwise simple and/or comfortable.
Autumn Blazers
Are blazers just for fall? Absolutely not. I love them year round (yes, in winter over a turtleneck and even draped over a tank or dress in summer)! But they’re’ pretty synonymous in fall – basically a fall capsule wardrobe necessity (I mean, a winter capsule wardrobe one too)!
If you’re wondering what makes a blazer, a blazer – it’s a structured line – note the defined shoulder seams and the button closure on every one of the autumn balzers below.
While it may seem that they’re all the same silhouette, there are actually many differences. The first is length. Some blazers hit at your hip bones, others go down further. There’s also a feminine tailor that goes in noticeably at your waist rather than more straight down.
And, finally, how fitted it is. Trying to maintain a minimalist wardrobe (within reason of course), I don’ have many blazers, so I want them to each serve a purpose. I have one that’s more fitted (the plaid blazer) and then one that’s oversized.
Oversized blazer is actually a great piece to really dismiss that professional work attire look (assuming you’re not wearing it with jeans like I usually do).

The great thing about autumn blazers is the ease of styling them. A simple t shirt (in a solid color) or a button up (structured or loose) are both lovely options under a blazer.
When it comes to bottoms, I clearly opt for jeans (what can I say?), but they do go well with dressy pants – and not just work slacks. In my how to wear joggers post, I paired my plaid blazer with fitted black lace joggers for a great look – work to evening out! A tailored blazer is also a great outerwear option for a palazzo pants outfit!
